There Must Be Consequences

When asked if he would be open to voting to impeach President Trump, Talarico did not answer directly. “I think our top priority has to be delivering for people in Texas,” he said. “They didn’t send us to Washington for political retribution.”

From the New York Times live coverage of the midterm results, November 4, 2026.

This is already my biggest fear, and it’s such a sign of short-sightedness. If you want to deliver for the people of Texas (or any state, for that matter), then political consequences for the Trump administration have to be an absolute priority. We cannot allow what happened over the past two years to simply pass as some misguided political whoopsies.

Crimes were committed. The Constitution was ignored. Over and over again, judges told the Trump administration that what it was doing was illegal. There must be consequences.
