The kids crushed their first week back to school - no tears, no panic, no drama. Honestly wasn't sure how this was going to go, but they're thriving. Praise the Lord for small mercies.
Emily and I are deep into "All Creatures Great and Small" (the 2020 PBS series). Perfect cozy comfort watching while the country descends into whatever fresh hell we're living through. Speaking of which - the DC occupation is so freaking dystopian I can barely process it. National Guard marching around the capital with Trump banners hanging from federal buildings. I remember my first trip to Mexico, seeing regular police patrolling with assault rifles and thinking how shocking that was. Now here we are, watching our government use fear and a police state to control American streets.
On a lighter note, Wesley finally learned to ride a bike! Thanks to Pedalheads camp for making it happen. This is one of those moments where I remember being super judgy about programs that teach kids basic life skills—like, how much of parenting are we going to outsource? Then Wesley refused to learn from Emily and me, and here we are. Humble pie tastes like... well, like watching your kid actually succeed when you swallow your pride.
Really excited that my co-pastor Tonetta is coming back from sabbatical next week!
Still very slowly making my way through James Kugel's "How to Read the Bible" and "Nightwatch over Windscar." Emily and I are reading "Kaiju Preservation Society" together - solid sci-fi comfort food.
