John 1

1:1–18NRSVue ↗
  • Hard not to write 20 pages here. Some of the most theologically dense and important text in the Bible.
  • In the beginning was the Logos. Logos is a concept in Greek philosophy. Jewish though tied Wisdom (a personification of God) and logos together.
  • Logos both with God and was God. John the latest written of the 4 Gospels, gives us some beginnings of articulating a trinitarian theology.
  • “Logos became flesh.” Incarnation.
  • “Dwelled among us.” Literally, “tabernacled among us,” or “pitched his tent.”
  • “It is the only Son..who has made God known.” Definitely has implications for how we understand Scripture. Jesus is the one who makes God known to us. Jesus is the Word of God (not the thing we call “the Bible”)
