Fun tidbit. Whenever you see speech by one character introduced more than once, without the second character saying anything, that is usually a sign that the second character has an extended period of silence because they don’t believe or understand the first character.

So, God says (verses 8-11), “I will never flood the earth again.” Noah says nothing. Verse 12, “Here’s the sign of my promise.” Noah says nothing. Verse 17, “No really, this is the sign of my promise.” A Hebrew reader is meant to understand that Noah is either stunned speechless or refuses to believe God in each case.
