"In the day that you eat of the tree you shall die" Genesis 2.

There are many interpretations attempting to understand why that didn't happen in Genesis 3.

What if the reason that God does not carry through on this threat of death is that it sets off one of the major motifs of Scripture: that God will relent from judgment in favor of mercy. 1
