Acts 20:17-end
Verse 20—The goal of good preaching ought to be, Helpfulness. Will this actually help people in their lives. Helpful is always better than Interesting.
We also see the two modes of ministry—Publicly and House-to-House. The Sunday gathering and the Home gathering. We need both!
Verses 25-31 gives us a good look at what Pastoral Leadership should look like. Notice there’s no language of “decision making,” “leadership,” “authority,” “increase numbers.” Rather it’s caretaking language. Shepherd. Keep watch. Protect. In other passages we get language of nurturing. Providing an example of how to live. Our spiritual leaders should not aim to be impressive. They should aim to live lives worth imitating.
