Paul is basing it off of "new nature." See the emphasis in putting on the new imagine (in which there are no Jews, Gentiles, slaves, free, etc.)
Slaves are able to receive "an inheritance from the Lord as a reward." But slaves were unable to receive an inheritance in Greco-Roman society.
