Revelation 13
Chapter 13 gives us a description of how Israel and the early church saw the Roman Empire and, honestly, all empires that demanded ultimate allegiance through violence, war, and submission.
Verse 8 is an important verse for understanding God’s nature. It’s not that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was a new characteristic of God. No, Christ is “the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.” God (revealed through the Lamb) has always been the kind of God who was self-sacrificing, self-giving, others-oriented.
