  • Closing paragraphs of the Sermon on the Mount. Where Matt 5–7 lands.
  • Frame: not about heaven/hell. Jesus' subject = the kingdom of God, which arrives. Question at v. 22 is not afterlife geography but: did you participate in the kingdom while it was being offered? "I never knew you" is about now.
  • Anxiety note: usually triggers the wrong people. Self-reflective readers worry "is this about me?" — and that very self-reflection is a sign of the life this passage calls for. The people who should worry are the ones who don't even think to look.
